My sister wrote a book, and I designed the cover which features one of the main characters, Seth.
The book is a slice-of-life story about a young woman with anxiety who goes to a treatment facility. In my sister’s words:
“That’s when I started the picking. I don’t know why I did it. I think that’s why I never told anyone or showed anyone what I was doing. Because I knew they would ask me why and I didn’t have an answer to their questions. Some nights I would lie in bed and ask myself that very question…why?” After a suicide attempt, Charlotte Martin “Charlie” is sent to Elkinson’s Haven: a treatment facility for individuals suffering from a host of mental health illnesses. Upon arrival, she is placed with a psychiatrist who shadows her every move and who strongly encourages Charlie to let go of her anxious tendencies. As Charlie struggles to form relationships with the young women that she shares a home with, she finds herself drawn to Seth: the musician whose manic episodes seem to be the only thing that can bring a smile to her face. After an unfortunate event occurs, Charlie is sent into a downward spiral of negativity. With the help of her new psychiatrist and the other residents of Elkinson’s Haven, Charlie must find a way to commit to the teachings of Elkinson’s, patch her broken relationship with her mother and rediscover herself amidst the darkness. A story of hope, love and self-acceptance, Bent, Not Broken aims to shed light on a difficult topic: mental health.
